ESI Events Presents

Son Little

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Playing his songs across the United States and in Europe over the past year, with a wide range of artists and to varying audiences, Son Little has noticed something particular about his own music.
“As I’ve been going around to different places with this very eclectic mix of other acts, one thing that’s struck me about my music is just how American it is,” he says.
And while he’s not wearing a stars-and-stripes polo while shooting fireworks and holding a sousaphone, his sentiment rings true. Here in this proud, brave land of blurred lines and regional dishes is a musical melting pot that sizzles and smokes, from sea to shining sea. Son Little is stirring that broth.
“Part of what’s unique about this country is its intense mixture of things. People in different regions don’t always understand each other that well, but music can go places that people won’t always go. That’s part of who I am and definitely part of the music I’m making, so now more than ever I feel very American.”
The artist formerly known as Aaron Livingston knows his nation well. He was born to a preacher and a teacher in Los Angeles, where he learned how to listen and how to play before moving east to New York and New Jersey. He dropped in and out of schools in Manhattan then Philadelphia, and there he collaborated with acts like The Roots and RJD2. He first planted his flag as Son Little with last year’s highly praised EP, Things I Forgot, a small collection of big songs that showcased his ability to hop across genres as well as he does state lines.

ESI Events Presents

AlunaGeorge
with Cleopold

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Buffalo, NY – In the two years since pop alchemists AlunaGeorge – aka singer and lyricist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid – released their critically lauded debut album, Body Music, they’ve barely stopped. From world tours to festivals to Katy Perry support slots to collaborations (2015’s frenetic “To Ü” with Skrillex & Diplo) to chart-slaying remixes (DJ Snake’s version of “You Know You Like It”, i.e. one of the most streamed songs of all time), their world has expanded immeasurably from the tiny London studio they started working in back in 2010. Somehow, in amongst the madness, they’ve managed to find the time to write and record a follow-up album (entitled I Remember) that confidently maintains their unique sonic palette – a soulful, pop-leaning take on downtempo dance and experimental R&B – but also takes it forward into bolder territories. Lead by the dancehall-tinged, ludicrously catchy banger “I’m In Control”, featuring Jamaican rapper Popcaan, it’s an album that channels their experiences into a delicious melange of pop styles. AlunaGeorge will be at The Tralf on Monday, June 20

ESI Events Presents

Josh Ritter &
The Royal City Band
With The Alternate Routes

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

Buffalo, NY – Josh Ritter will set out on an extensive U.S. headlining tour in support of his latest album Sermon On The Rocks. Joined by The Royal City Band, this run of dates will include a performance inside The Tralf on Wednesday, July 20.

Over the course of his acclaimed career, Ritter has released seven full-length albums, including The Beast In Its Tracks, which debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The record also received widespread critical praise—NPR Music called it, “…gorgeous and glorious,” while Pitchfork asserted, “Beast is contemplative and forgiving, a means of burying one relationship to commit to another, and Ritter nicely evokes the excitement and resignation of such a transition.” Additionally, in 2011, Ritter made is debut as a published author with his New York Times best-selling novel, Bright’s Passage (Dial Press/Random House). Of the work, Stephen King writes in The New York Times Book Review, “Shines with a compressed lyricism that recalls Ray Bradbury in his prime…This is the work of a gifted novelist.

All Them Witches

ESI Events Presents

All Them Witches
King Buffalo

7pm Doors | 8pm Show

All Them Witches - "Live at AB"

Buffalo, NY – Nashville-based All Them Witches impress in both their cohesiveness of sound and their obvious drive toward an individual approach. Their blend of blues rocking grooves and heavy psych-derived jamming comes through clearly, and has wasted no time in getting to the public's ears thanks to three stunning albums.

The odd name of its debut album for New West Records, "Dying Surfer Meets His Maker," is a tip-off to the band's skewed perspective. And the second track, "El Centro," provides further proof, beginning with rumbling drums and grunge guitar riffs, then transitioning into a blues-infused, Southern rock headbanger, before things get wonderfully weird with some psychedelic, free-form sludge, primal rumbles, and cymbal-rattling, jazzlike flourishes. And there's supposed to be more of that thrilling spontaneity at the live show, as All Them Witches embraces the jam-band mentality that no show is ever exactly the same.
